Looking to sell some stuff for cash? Look no further! One of the quickest ways to make cash is to sell stuff you’ve already got. As Americans, we literally have soo much stuff. Like way more than we could ever need. And while I understand our obsession with stuff, ultimately, lots of it doesn’t serve a purpose. Now I’m not saying you should go out and hock family heirlooms, but there’s plenty of stuff sitting in our closest, or gasp, our storage units, that needs to go. All that money can be spent on paying down debt.
And who doesn’t wanna pay down some debt? Ready to get on it? Let’s go!

- eBay– Our tried and true favorite, has to be EbeBy.com. I mean who doesn’t love eBay. You can find anything and everything there. Wanna know the going price for board games, tube socks, and a wrench set? Have no fear, cuz eBay is here. Easy to set up, simply take some pics with your iPhone, and get it listed. Sold in no time! Ps. Don’t forget to add in shipping charges on your listing. Who wants to lose profit to shipping charges : -(
- Etsy– So you’re crafty are ya? Well, let’s start marketing that stuff. If you’ve got a creative bone in your body and you like to make things, Etsy is your go-to site. Geared specifically for craft makers and artisans, it’s a great outlet to sell your creations. Beware though, don’t spend all your hard-earned money on more crafts. And believe me, it’s easy to do on Etsy.
- Amazon– So I know Amazon isn’t the normal place to sell items, but it does have a thriving used marketplace. Especially for things like books. The downside? It’s a bit of pain to set up. But if you’ve got an inventory of stock that needs to move don’t be afraid to try the Amazon Marketplace.
- Facebook Marketplace– New to the scene is the FB Marketplace. I like this marketplace, cuz unlike Craigslist, you’ve got an attached personal profile attached. There’s a little more credibility when you check out who you’re potentially buying or selling to.
- Consignment Stores– The stores are great. Like really great! Have rare antiques to sell? Have loads of clothes to sell? Look for a consignment store. Most often these stores take things on consignment, where they sell for you and take a chunk out as their consignment fee. It’s a great, and super easy way to get rid of lots of stuff at once without the haggling to sell to customers. Take note that, you are selling for less because you’re basically paying a commission.
- Garage Sales– I love a good garage sale. LOVE them. I spent much of my youth traveling around looking at other people’s crap! While they can be sort of labor-intensive, I love it when multiple households get together and sell all their stuff together. You can work in shifts, over multiple days/weeks, and chances are you’ll get a bigger crowd with multiple households participating. Get ready to dicker on price though!
- Craigslist– Now Craigslist is one of those things that you need to take with a grain of salt. If I had a high priced item, I’d be more likely to sell privately, off a FB page, or in a shop than to advertise on Craigslist. What do I mean by this? Well, Craigslist is where all the crazies live. Literally. I’ve bought and sold multiple vehicles off Craigslist, with little to no problem, but I’ve also entertained lots and lots of crazy emails, calls, and no-shows. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great source to sell, you just have to be careful.
- Pawn Shop– The great thing about a Pawn shop? You walk out with cash. The bad thing? It’s usually a lot less than what you wanted. It’s fast, quick, and easy. You just have to be prepared to give away some cash, cuz that’s where they make their cash. If you’re selling something valuable, like jewelry, make sure you get an appraisal before you go into a pawn shop, so you’ve got more bargaining power.
- Online Apps– There’s plenty of great apps out there for those of you that need to sell some stuff. Sites like Swappa, Gazelle, Glyde.com, are all great go-to’s for those of you that need to get rid of electronics.
- Wedding Dresses– So you’re married now. What are you gonna do with that dress? Save it for your daughter? What if you only have sons? Chances are you paid decent money to wear a dress once and now it’s sitting. Never fear there are places that you can sell them. Check out sites such as NearlyNewlywed, or PreOwndedWeddingdresses.
So there you’ve got 10 easy ways to sell your items for cash. Take some time this weekend to go thru your house and start collecting items that you no longer need, or use. Items sitting around have value and are just taking up space. It’s time to de-clutter and make some cash on the side! Good luck and have fun!
