Alright, so how many of you have goals and dreams? How many of you daydream about all those things, places, things that we don’t have yet? Everyone raising their hand?? I am.
I think all the time about the future, and honestly, it’s both good and bad. I’ve always had a rich imagination, but I can get lost in my dreams. Thinking about that dream house, the tile I’d use in my dream kitchen, the places I’d visit on those vacations that I can’t ever seem to afford. Don’t’ get me wrong, it’s great to dream, but I like many others, can get lost in them. I can get stuck, where I’ve got the desire, but not a place to achieve, Not a list of goals and the actions to achieve it. And believe me, I get it. It’s nice to think about what you’ll do with that new Lexus when you’re struggling to just keep that old Toyota running. It’s easier and strangely satisfying to think about the what-ifs, and what could be.
Don’t get me wrong, dreams and visions are great. It’s better to have them, then to not have them. I always feel strange when I meet an adult that seemingly doesn’t have any dreams or desires. No real interests in life. It’s kinda sad actually. The hard part is putting into action, steps to make those dreams and visions a reality. It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day life that we all lead. We’re busy, we’re tired, and ultimately we’re complacent.
So let’s take a minute and look at those people that seem to have it all. No, I’m not talking about the trust fund kid, I’m talking about the people that hustle. The people that fall down, but get up quickly and keep it moving. The people that seem to be moving up in the world. Achieving their goals, living the life we want. Do they have problems? Sure they do, we all do. But there’s something special about their motivation and what keeps them hustling towards their goals.
I’ve always been a person that dreams big, has goals and has an idea about the life that I want to lead. Am I there right now? Nope. Am I working on it? Yep.
For me, it starts with a goal list or even a vision board. Sit down in a quiet place, without distraction. Get some coffee and start writing.

Where do you wanna be?
- Where do you wanna live?
- What do you wanna do for work?
- What do you wanna learn?
- What’s your plan for the future?
- What’s your place for your kids future, how is that gonna look?
- How are you planning on retiring?
- What activities are you interested in that you aren’t doing now? Why aren’t you doing them? Finances? Time? How are your finances?
- Are you living paycheck to paycheck?
- Do you have a retirement account?
- How do you feel physically?
Sometimes just checking in with ourselves and our goals is the best thing we can do to keep moving forward. I know that I make a point to schedule and even put a weekly timer on my phone to remind myself to look over my goals. That way they’re present on top of mind. It’s easy to get bogged down in the minutia of life and forget about all your grand plans, and just keep repeating it every day.
Spend some time looking at yourself and your life. Yes, it’s tricky and sometimes not very fun. But it’s necessary to make a change. We cannot change the things we don’t acknowledge. If you want/need to lose weight, you gotta accept it, acknowledge it and make a plan.
Dreams are hard because while they’re fun and entertaining, they require work. Lots and lots of work. And believe me, the easiest way to get started is to get organized. Make a plan. We can’t and won’t accomplish everything at once, in fact, it’s a nightmare and most often leads to failure. We need a decisive and quick plan to get us started.
So take this time to reflect and look at where you’re at, and where you wanna be. The first step is acknowledgment, the second is planning, the third is putting it into practice. Good luck and let’s all move one step closer towards our goals!
